The Pyramid Model
Building Strong Foundations Through the Pyramid Model
At Princeton Nursery School, we believe that a strong early childhood education supports the whole child. Children need opportunities not only to develop academically, but also to build the social and emotional skills that help them form relationships, communicate their needs, manage big feelings, solve problems, and feel confident and connected in their community.
That is why Princeton Nursery School is proud to serve as a Pyramid Model Implementation Site in partnership with Montclair State University.
What is the Pyramid Model?
The Pyramid Model for Promoting Social Emotional Competence in Infants and Young Children is an evidence-based framework designed to support the social, emotional, and behavioral development of young children.
Rather than being a separate curriculum, the Pyramid Model strengthens the practices educators use throughout the school day. Its approach begins with nurturing, responsive relationships and high-quality, supportive classroom environments.
From that foundation, teachers intentionally help children develop important social-emotional skills and provide individualized support when children need additional help.
Through our implementation partnership, our educators receive specialized training and ongoing coaching to help bring these practices into our classrooms consistently and meaningfully.
